The Pussycat Dolls (usually called "The Dolls" or just "PCD"), is a team of six hot female singers, who dance and perform in snug outfits. Began debuting in clubs in late 90s, the sextet has published several singles and albums, which earned them awards and the recognition of being one of best-selling groups, and still, they have more bright years to come.
Members The PCD consists of six singers. There had been turnarounds, but by 2007 the group consists of Nicole Scherzinger, Carmit Bachar, Ashley Roberts, Jessica Sutta, Melody Thornton, and Kimberly Wyatt.
Nicole Scherzinger Nicole Elikolani Prescovia Scherzinger (aka Nicole Kea) is the lead singer of The Dolls. This Hawaiian-Russian-Filipino descent was born in Honolulu. Her mom was the leader of hula dancer while her grandmother was the singer. When she was six, her family moved to Kentucky, Louisville. Nicole apparently had the passion and talent for acting, dancing and singing. She went into performing arts junior and senior high schools. At 14 her first pro play was at the Actors Theatre of Louisville. In the Wright State University in Dayton, OH, she majored in theater and minored in dance. To support herself, she took various local modeling jobs. At the university, she got several leading roles in theater performances, such as Velma Kelly in "Chicago" and Julie LaVerne in "Show Boat". After some performances, she just seemed to be eager to explore her talents. She then applied for the female singer position in the rock band Days Of The New. Good for her, soon after hearing her demos, the band's producer took her to L.A where she recorded their second album and prepared to go on tour with them. After the band tour, she returned home. But not for a long time. The WB's talent search series, "Popstars" lured her to Chicago to line up for audition since dawn. She did well and was joined in the girl group consists of the female winners, "Eden Crush". Its 2001 self-titled debut album went Top 10 and the single "Get Over Yourself" went to #1 on Billboard's singles chart. In its golden times, the band toured with NSYNC and Jessica Simpson. After Eden Crush, Nicole tried her luck in the acting world. Back in LA, she got some jobs in movies, such as "Chasing Papi" and guest-starred in television series such as "My Wife and Kids."
Carmit Bachar Carmit Bachar (aka Foxy) was famous for being one of Ricky Martin's female dancers in his world tour. She is of Dutch-Indonesian-Israeli-Chinese descent. She was born in L.A, having risen in a family of entertainers, she chooses the path to be one of it too. She had worked together with numerous artists and musicians, such as No Doubt, Beyonce Knowles, P. Diddy, Macy Gray and Janet Jackson. Aside from her dancing skills, she is also keen on singing and playing musical instruments. She went into Hamilton Academy of Music, to smoothen her voice and viola and piano playing. Carmit was also good at sports. She was a rhythmic gymnastics national team member. She was placed 5th at the '92 Olympic Trials. Carmit, who's born with cleft lips, is in process of founding Smile With Me, a nonprofit organization dedicated for cleft children in L.A. She believes in limitless possibility for everyone. Having through her own obstacles, she feels compelled to encourage passion and creativity in everything she does.
Ashley Roberts This Phoenix-native Angel Doll was born in September 1981. She showed from a very early age that she 'has it' to be a performer. She studied dance when she was three, and began singing at the age of eight. She spent her summer breaks during high school to study modern dance in West Coast. After high school, she decided to move to Los Angeles. She appeared in TV commercials and a Counting Crows video.
Jessica Sutta The dark-haired fair-skinned Jessica was born to an Irish-Japanese-Russian-Polish family. Miami-native Jessica started ballet dancing at the age of three. At the age of 14, Jessica Sutta went to the New World School of the Arts to study dances, especially ballet. But an ACL injury broke her dream to be a renowned ballerina. She then switched to theater studies, before finally returned to dance, but this time the modern one. She joined the Miami Heat dance team in '99 and became captain in 2001. She moved to Los Angeles in 2002, and worked as a freelance dancer for music videos. Jessica Sutta acted in the Swedish TV soap opera "Ocean Ave.", filmed in Florida. The musicians whom music videos she got involved in are; Will Smith, Craig David, and Gloria Estefan, to name just a few.
Melody Thornton The youngest of six, Melody was found when she was singing "Without You" in a high school talent show. The Phoenix-native was born to African-American father and Mexican-American mother. That is why she hopes many audiences would be able to relate to her. She went straight to pursue her dream, leaving her school. She heard about an audition for a new Dolls member and joined the Dolls since 2003. Her powerful vocal is often compared to Christina Aguilera's. Melody had sung backup for local artists and performed the National Anthem for the Arizona Diamondbacks while attending college.
Kimberly Wyatt Kimberly was born and raised in a small farm town, Warrensburg, MO, located in Middle America. Her parents are truckers. But she found her affection for dancing. Kimberly danced since she was seven. At the age of 14 she won a scholarships to study dance in New York City each summer, ranged from the Joffrey Ballet to the Broadway Dance Center. Graduated from high school at 17, she went to cruise ship and casino shows audition in Las Vegas. Her joining cabaret shows on Royal Caribbean's Explorer of the Seas made her able to travel abroad, mostly the Southern Europe. In 2001, she got an offer from the Hubbard St. Dance Co. in Chicago, but refused it, decided to move to L.A. "All I knew was that L.A. is where dancers got jobs and L.A. was the dot MapQuest led to. My parents thought, 'Oh my God, what is she going to turn into out there?'" she said. In 2003, Robin Antin met Kimberly while she was doing the choreography for Nick Lachey's video and asked her to join The Pussycat Dolls. About being the rural girl among the city slickers, she said that small town Middle America is different from the coasts. She said it makes her has "a different perspective." She said that the other Dolls love her stories about "towns where the fancy clothing store is Wal-Mart."
Road to Fame Robin Antin, a choreographer for music videos and also dances for numerous commercials, often regarded as a highly respected one in the industry. She made many choreos with prominent musicians and groups such as Sting, No Doubt, The Offspring, and Smash Mouth. She was keen on modern burlesque troupe and began delving into it with her friend, Christina Applegate. She wanted to do something creative and different, so she invited a few dancer girlfriends to dance with her choreography, a mix-and match of Bob Fosse's and music from Led Zeppelin, Siouxsie, Bjork, to The Banshees plus a taste for fashion. They played in the garage of actress Christina Applegate's L.A. house, a long time friend of her. Applegate suggested them to perform in front of wider audience. So they set up to perform in The Viper Room, Johnny Depp's renowned club in the Sunset Strips in 1995. Carmen Electra was the group's lead performer for many of their shows. She seemed to set a high standard for all the Dolls girls, and they reached tremendous success as a new troupe. The Pussycat Dolls then became a regular Thursday night opening act for the next six years. The PCD got the eye of the audiences boosted when Gwen Stefani and Christina Aguilera asked for a guest spot among The Dolls. In 2002 The Pussycat Dolls moved to The Roxy. For two shows a week, for seven weeks, the place was sold out. Numerous actresses and musicians had asked to join them in their show, just for the fun of it. The list includes: Brittany Murphy, Charlize Theron, Scarlett Johansson, Nikka Costa, Paris Hilton and Pamela Anderson. The PCD then appeared in many medias, such as magazines, televisions, especially MTV and VH1. That same year, Antin prepared the troupe for a bigger future. Together with music producers Jimmy Iovine and Ron Fair, they took the PCD to a higher level. The PCD's singles then appear in some movies, such as in Shark Tale ("We Went As Far As We Felt Like Going") and Shall We Dance? ("Sway"). The PCD also appeared in Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle and Pink's "Trouble" video, and "Be Cool". Moreover, Nicole was featured with Will Smith on "If U Can't Dance (Slide)" on his 2005 Lost and Found album.
Achievements The PCD had won some awards, such as the 2005 Billboard Music Award for their single "Don't Cha", nominated for the Top Selling R&B/Hip-Hop of the Year and was nominated in the 2006 MTV Australian Video Music Awards for R&B Video of the Year. Besides music, other industries have been spying on them to take them signed deals. Stila make-ups made a Pussycat Dolls line of makeup, and Caesar's Palace in L.V opened a lounge using their name: The Pussycat Dolls Lounge, opened in April 2005, featuring different troupe of performers.
Other Appearances The PCD had also guest starred in some television shows, such as "Ellen: The Ellen DeGeneres Show" in episodes dated May 22, 2006 and January 12, 2006. They also appeared in "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" on May 18th 2006 as musical guest. Next Step (s) In 2006-2007 TV season, the PCD is going to have a talent search show, named The Search For The New Pussycat Doll. This show was made to search for the seventh member of the group. The show is going to be aired on the CW network. As for the musical side, the Dolls are going to be touring with Christina Aguilera and Danity Kane in spring 2007.
Discography The PCD released some albums, titled "PCD" that was released in 2005 under AM&M, "PCD Christmas Edition", that was released in December 2006, and "Double the Trouble", planned to be released in 2007.
